Stand-Up Paddleboards

Paddleboard rentals are picked up at Hoodsport Ace & Lumber. Every watercraft rental is reviewed at pickup for current weather, equipment, customer readiness, return time, and the customer’s disclosed launch plan.

Who It's For

Eligibility depends on the individual board, the customer’s current ability and weight information, the planned water use, and same-day conditions. Staff will confirm the appropriate unit before release.

Seasonal Availability

Reservations are requests until staff completes the day-of watercraft release process. Watercraft may be delayed, reassigned, or unavailable when weather, water conditions, safety equipment, staffing, or launch-plan requirements are not met.

Safety Information

A properly fitted PFD, leash, whistle, and required safety gear are verified at checkout.
Customers must disclose their intended launch location and verify current access, fees, closures, conditions, and site requirements.
Watercraft are released only after the day’s Go/No-Go decision and customer safety process are complete.
Return time is established by the rental agreement.
Do not launch or continue paddling when conditions change or staff directs a return.

Hood Canal Watercraft Safety

Safety Requirements — All Renters

  • Coast Guard-approved PFD must be worn at all times while on or near the water
  • Paddle leash required at all times
  • Whistle must be attached to your PFD
  • Dry bag with emergency instructions required
  • Waterproof map card required
  • Mandatory safety briefing required before launch
  • No rentals if sustained wind exceeds 10–12 mph
  • No rentals if Small Craft Advisory is issued
  • No rentals if thunderstorms are forecast
  • No rentals if visibility is poor
  • No rentals if staff determines launch/recovery conditions are unsafe
  • No use while impaired

Required Acknowledgement at Rental

"I understand Hood Canal paddling involves wind, tide/current, cold-water shock, drowning, impact, separation from equipment, weather change, and rescue risks. I agree to wear a Coast Guard-approved PFD at all times, use required safety equipment, stay within approved route boundaries, follow staff safety instructions, and return immediately if conditions become unsafe."
